What is a "practice" Comp?
After speaking with dozens of competitive dancers, studio owners and choreographers, one thing we found in common amongst all of them was that they all wished their dancers could have a true "practice run" of their pieces before their first big event. As in, an official first performance of their routines on a real stage at a real competition, with real judges and real crowd energy, but NO stress of overalls.
The Practice Comp is an opportunity for your dancers to get all of those first performance jitters out and set them up to feel 10x more confident when it comes time for their first competition. Providing them the chance to go for that new tumbling pass or turn section they've been working on all year, the chance to see how the costume looks under the stage lights + if any alterations need to be made, the chance to see what parts of their routine need some more practice AND the chance to do all of this while still getting to hear judges feedback and receiving scoresheets for each routine!
At each event, dancers will receive an adjudication, judges critiques, scoresheets & level recommendations, but won't have to worry about overalls or how they scored in comparison to other dancers, as this event is for YOU and we want your full focus to be on giving a great "practice" run!
FAQ'S
Does it cost the same as a normal comp?
Nope! We prioritize making TPC super affordable so that ALL dancers can have a practice run and don't need to stress about the cost! On top of that, we also are giving discounts to all dancers that attend The Practice Comp and a Stage Ready event in the same season!
But what if my dance isn't done? We still have 45 seconds of choreo left...
No problem! We are requiring all entries to be at least 1 minute and 15 seconds in length, and dancers that don't know their full routine yet are welcome to fade out the song and exit the stage whenever their choreography ends. They will only be scored on what they've learned and no scores will be deducted for having a shorter routine. All the judges know this is a practice comp and that the dancers & studio owners really just want feedback regarding how it looks so far! It's better to have been able to practice what you DO know, than to wait and do ALL of it for the first time at your first competition.
My costume hasn't come in yet, what should I do?
We aren't scoring on costume AT ALL during our Practice Comps! Once again, we understand that all dancers may not have their costumes ready in time for these events but still want to get critiques and scores regarding their dancing, and we absolutely encourage them to perform anyways!
** Dancers that do not have their costume ready yet, are asked to wear all solid color dance wear with no large logos!
Not at all! Anything you want to perform, we've got you covered. We even are offering full time slots for studios that bring more than 20 routines, so that they can have all of their routines compete around the same time, receive their adjudication, and be on their way!
Is it only open to solos?
One of the coolest perks about attending TPC is that all judges have a section of their scoresheet where they select what level they recommend this dancer/routine being placed in for their upcoming dance season! This is PERFECT for those that are unsure if their dancer(s) should move up a level or stay where they are and want to get professional feedback on recommended placement!
Are there any levels?
When will you be offering these events?
Our Practice Comps will be held each season from December until mid-January!
